Error code 5200 on Canon Pixma iP4800, MP640, MP560, MP540, MX870, MX860, MX320, MX330, MP550, MP560, IP4810, IP4800 and iP4820 printers
Error 5200 generally indicates that a piece of hardware in the printer has failed. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue.
Step 1: Check the printer's power source
Make sure the printer is plugged in and has a stable power source. If you are using a power adapter, make sure that it is securely connected to the electrical outlet. You may also want to try connecting the printer to a different power source.
Step 2: Reset the Printer
Sometimes resetting the printer can resolve the error. Try powering off the printer, unplugging it from the power source, and then wait at least 10 seconds before plugging it back in. Then power the printer on and check to see if the error is still present.
Step 3: Check Ink Cartridges
Make sure the ink cartridges are properly inserted into their slots. If they are not, remove and reinstall them. Additionally, make sure the cartridges are full and not empty. If the cartridges need to be replaced, be sure to do so with genuine Canon ink cartridges.
Step 4: Clean Printer Head
The printer head can become clogged, which can cause the printer to display this error. Try running the print head cleaning utility, which can be found either through the printer settings or using the Canon Printer Assistant software. If the error still persists after running the cleaning utility, you may need to manually clean the print head.
If the printer still displays the 5200 error code after attempting these steps, then it is likely that the printer needs to be serviced. There may be a faulty part within the printer, such as the logic board or carriage, that needs to be replaced. In this case it is recommended to contact Canon support for further assistance.
